During the seven weeks of ‘Entangled’ we’ll focus on individual artists here on our blog. ‘some things looming’ is pleased to introduce: Nancy Oliver
Using a traditional sloper pattern, an original design was drafted using flat pattern techniques to create a ten piece asymmetrical pattern. Brocade fabric served as the fashion fabric with a layer of batting and lining fabric to create a three layer structural surface to embellish by attaching three different types of yarn using machine stitching techniques. After each garment section was individually embellished, bias binding was created to reinforce the sections as they were connected together. The curvature of the asymmetrical sections of the garment and the abstract surface embellishment was reinforced with the unequal width of the binding. Hand beading was attached to hand stitched yarns randomly placed on the bias binding connecting the asymmetrical sections.
