During the seven weeks of ‘Entangled’ we’ll focus on individual artists here on our blog. ‘some things looming’ is pleased to introduce: Lisa Louie
Knitting. It’s not something you expect to find in Hawaii. Much of my knitting isn’t what you expect, either. While I have always made, and will continue to make, more traditional garments and accessories, much of my knitting is unexpected and unconventional.
People are frequently flabbergasted to discover I knit things like volcano hats and sculptural pieces. I recently knit a free form wall hanging representing Diamondhead Crater, and if I show someone a picture of it, they invariably ask “But wait…isn’t that painted?”
My art in some ways is like my life: I never expected any of it to look like it does, but I am very glad that it does.
