“Metaphorical function” is one of the terms I use to describe my current work, dovetailing a sculptural form with the innate potential for usefulness and gratifying interaction that every three-dimensional object possesses. In this particular scenario function follows form, a kind of recycling of art itself as a functional object activated through touch and let loose in the world. The “Braille Series” utilizes Braille as a surface texture, not only to deliver information through the necessity of touch, but to suggest blemishes on the skin that invite a haptic experience much like apes have while grooming each other.
